For the last 1 year I have been looking for ways to manage waste. I can gladly say that I was able to make a few developments in these areas by adapting a minimalist lifestyle, recycling and donating stuff which I don’t use any more. No doubt it has given me a sense of relief however, I wanted to reduce waste as much as possible rather than solely depending on recycling as it does take cost and effort to recycle and also not all wastes can be recycled.

While working towards this goal I noticed that most of the waste generated in our home is from the kitchen (dry and wet waste). When researching about the alternatives to reduce dry waste I came across a company called “our farmer” https://www.ourfarmer.shop/.

Today’s article is focused on them (Our Farmer) which not only helped me to an extent to find a solution to my waste management problem but also a good source of quality products.

Disclaimer: Before we start, I want to clarify that it is not a paid promotion. The reason why I felt like writing about them was that I really wanted to spread the word about this initiative for all the like minded individuals who are going through similar challenges. And if this article can help even one person to bring change in their lifestyle, it will be totally worth it.

Now, I’m not saying that everything about this company is awesome. I did face some difficulty while placing an order however I can give them a benefit of doubt as start-ups usually face some challenges in the beginning. I’m hopeful that these issues will not stop them from their journey of providing quality products to their customers and at the same time support farmers and reduce waste as much as possible.

If you want to know more about their story you can definitely visit their website however today I’ll focus on the things which I liked about this company.

Supports Environment: As you might have already understood by now, that my main reason to try products from “Our farmer " was to reduce unnecessary packaging material. The product was delivered to me in good quality cloth and paper bags. Additionally, they use jute ropes to tie the package instead of plastic tie-ups which was very thoughtful of them. On top of that if you return the cloth bags you can avail additional discounts in your next order. The overall initiative was environment friendly and very impressive.

Pure Organic products: We hear many stories on how the food is processed, stored and delivered in an unhealthy manner which adversely affect our health and we are always on the quest of finding quality products. “Our Farmer” claims that the products sold by them are non GMOs. Therefore, it not only provides more nutrition without added chemicals but also help our environment by keeping the crop and soil healthy. If you check the founder’s vision you can notice that the company was started with the clear vision of providing quality food for the future generation.

Personalized notes:

Personalized notes: These cute little handwritten notes with full details about the product had really brought a big smile on my face. It has complete detail about farmers, where it was grown, when it was harvested and how it was packed. I still wonder how they are managing to write so many notes :D, but you certainly look forward to opening each product and knowing more about it.

Good customer service: As I am from a customer service background, I always like to see how companies operate their customer service team. I always have a biased feeling that if the company focuses on their customer service it means they are on the right track. My experience with the customer service rep was amazing. He patiently replied to all my queries (even queries which were not related to my product). Though I didn’t get much time to speak with the delivery guy but had a good experience with him as well. For some reason I had to make the payment after delivery and when I asked him for the invoice, he replied, “It will be sent to you and you can take your time to make the payment”. These are little details which really adds value and shows a lot about the company.

Product Customization: I got to know that they also provide customization based on customer requirements. For example: They grind all the flour in their own manufacturing units and if we want to customize the texture (thick or thin) of the flour we can request them to do so. Though I have not personally asked for any changes, this feature is an added bonus and I personally have never seen such customization from any of the grocery food chains.

Support Farmers: Last but not the least, we all know how few incentives farmers get for their hard work because of many middlemen in entire supply chain. And companies who directly coordinate with farmers can certainly provide better prices for their crops. Also, I noticed that the products I received were mostly from nearby locations from my city which in turn can reduce logistic costs for the company. On the whole, such initiatives will definitely help farmers in the long run.

To conclude, I know this article has become too long especially when you are talking about a company, however we rarely come across good initiatives and this is one of them. I felt that writing about them is worth my time. I really wish all the good things for their future endeavors and hopefully, they will grow and at the same time maintain the same level of experience for their customers, farmers, & environment as the bar set by them is already very high ;)

Thanks for reading!
